I am planning on taking a road trip to New York from Texas this holiday. My main concern is driving in the snow. My Pathfinder is 4×2 not 4×4. Should I be worried? Any tips on driving in winter weather?
Nah – stay on the main highways and you’ll be fine. Take enough money to spend the night in a hotel and watch the weather channel. You will probably not see that much snow.
Pathfinder is heavy and your 08 should have good tires, so it should be decent. The keys to driving in snow:
1) Always anticipate and never react
2) Minimize all input (steering, brake, accelerator)
3) Don’t use cruise control
4) If you skid steer into the direction the rear end is heading BUT ONLY just as much as it’s skidding. A little skid onlt requires a little countersteering
5) If you’re approaching a traffic light on a snowy road, pretend it’s red even if it’s not. Slow down as if it’s turning red.
6) NEVER let morons in 4X4s intimidate you into going faster than you want to go.
7) On divided highways in heavy snow, stick with the right lane
When possible, follow 18 wheelers and drive in truck tracks
9) If there’s any talk or indication of ice, get a room before they’re all gone.
10) Don’t get below 1/4 tank if bas weather is a possibility
11) Pack blankets, phone charger and water
im from new york and really there’s nothing to be woried about enless you going up near albany then you might want the 4×4 but other than that you don’t need it [my sister ex had a peice of shit pickup with 2wd and it went in the snow with a couple of sand bags in da back]

yea don’t drive fast (obviously) look for black ice when driving if the road is very shinny than drive slow on it and don’t tail gate. also your car probably has ABS which is good in rain but in snow and ice it some times won’t work because the car ABS computer needs input from at least one wheel and if all of them are locked up than the ABS computer will assume that the car is not moving. also give your self plenty of distance from the person driving in front of you don’t worry to much about the A-hole that’s tail gating you because in NY if some body hits you in the back they are automatically at fault.

well the pathfinder is rear wheel drive but as long as you have luggage in the trunk there should be no problem plus they keep the roads really clear really fast up north

of course it will do fine its a 2008 pathfinder not a 98. nissan suvs have superb off road capability even though you are not going to go off road you will possibly face treacherous terrain and the pathfinder will be your guide

I would just suggest checking your tires tread depth and the air pressure, as long as both of them are in check you shouldn’t have to worry about it. The only time you would really need 4 wheel drive is to get out of a ditch, or go mudding with your buddies.
